How “Live” works in each app

  • Gmail Live turns the inbox into a dialogue partner. Ask, “When is my kid’s next school event?” and the system scans recent messages, pulls out the date and replies aloud. Follow up with, “Can you forward that to my calendar?” and the conversation continues without a restart. On-screen transcripts link the spoken answer back to the original email, giving a clear audit trail.

  • Docs Live goes from retrieval to creation. Speak a rough outline, say “Summarize the quarterly report in three bullet points,” or dictate a full business proposal. Gemini formats the text, adds headings, and even pulls relevant data from Gmail, Drive and Chat. The result is a polished document assembled while you talk.

  • Keep Live focuses on quick capture and organization. A casual command like “Add ingredients for pesto to my shopping list” is parsed for intent, items are categorized automatically, and the note appears in the right section of the app. The mode tolerates mid-sentence interruptions, mimicking a natural conversation instead of demanding rigid commands.

All three modes show live transcripts so users can see exactly which words the AI heard and which source material informed the response. This transparency builds trust, especially when workplace decisions rely on AI-generated summaries.

Who gets it and when

The rollout is limited to mobile devices and English. Access is tiered:

  • Gmail Live – iOS and Android, available to AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers.
  • Docs Live – iOS and Android, available to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
  • Keep Live – Android only, available to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.

Google says the “Live” capabilities will reach Workspace business customers “soon,” but it has not set a date. Desktop browsers and additional languages remain on the roadmap.
